Our Vacation - The beginning

Thursday, September 25 at 5:00 p.m. marked the beginning of our vacation as we added 4 large and 5 small suitcases/bags into our Highlander. Packing the 5 people who required all that luggage into the vehicle was another feat, and Nathaniel and I quickly realized that before any people (no hints intended, sorry) are added to this family, we need a minivan.

Like sardines, we made the 5 mile track to the airport (thanking God that we live close by) and proceeded to unfold ourselves from the amazing positions we had put ourselves in to fit, in order to exit. Nathaniel's parent's flight was about an hour before ours so we had plenty of time to park the car, get through security, grab a bite to eat, and do a little "people watching," a sport Kaitlyn has already become an expert in.

We purposefully arranged our flight for 8:10 p.m., to coincide with Kaitlyn's bedtime - and it worked like a charm. Kaitlyn was happy and playful, talking to the other passengers. She enjoyed watching the plane charge down the runway and stayed conscience long enough to see the world below quickly disappear and then it was lights out for Kaitlyn until touchdown in Florida.

Once we landed, the three musketeers headed for baggage claim and the car rental place. Our vacation was off to a flawless start.

Our bags in hand and the minivan we rented ready to go, we loaded and headed out to pick up his parents - who left before us and landed after us (they learned their lesson - it's Southwest from now on!!)

We got to the gate to leave the parking garage only to be turned away. The car was under NJ's dad's name - like criminals, we were told we weren't allowed to leave. So, back to our parking spot we waited. About an hour later we were packed up, with his parents, and we headed back to the gate, only to be rejected again. This time NJ's dad's license was wrong -- his old NC one was on file instead of his MD one. So, we backed up yet again.... Now over 2 hrs since we landed we found that a 3rd times the charm (well sort of, even this time the lady had entered the license number wrong, so it still wasn't a perfect match - but the gate attendant had mercy on us)...finally we had escaped, ready to explore Florida. Of course by this time it was after midnight (and Kaitlyn was cranky) so all we wanted to explore was the comfort of our hotel room. After a 30 minute drive to Miami, we settled down in our Homewood Suite for the night. Tomorrow we would explore Miami!!
