An Elevator - A Conduit of Relaxation
Elevators have been seen as many things, but mostly as a mechanical vehicle that helps us avoid stairs. However, today, as I rushed between meetings, I realized that elevators are much more. They can be boxed conduits of relaxation - if you let them. And no, not because there is "elevator music," there was none in this case. I just realized that in an elevator is one of the few times that you can just relax, enjoy a moment, take a deep breath, and not do anything else. When the doors chimes and opens you can be off again running yourself ragged trying to make every deadline and shake every hand. But for those few precious moments between 1st and 10th floor you can be free. I took a moment to breath in an elevator today - just listen to those around me - and let the stress of the world wash over me. And then, well, then, reality kicked back in, but for a moment it was nice :)
